Ayurveda The Cookbook

Welcome, this site works hand in hand with my book called Health & Vitality Through Taste.

Find out how easy it is to use Ayurveda in the kitchen. Use the power of taste alone to restore and maintain balance. Ayurveda identifies six tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent, and pungent which affect each of us differently. We all have different preferences for these tastes based on our unique mind-body type, which you can find out from the questionnaire, and then choose dishes to balance your type.
Tastes act upon the three controlling principles called the three doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These make your primary and secondary mind-body types, and dietary preferences. The three primary types are:  Vata types who tend to be thinner and have a fast metabolism, Pitta types who are medium build & competitive, and Kapha types who are bigger build with a slower metabolism, so need exercise.
The three Spice Mix recipes for Vata, Pitta and Kapha offer a simple and quick way to prepare suitable & tasty meals that balance your doshas. With these dishes you won’t feel the need to nibble. Some of the ingredients used in the Spice Mixes include ginger, turmeric, coriander, cumin & cinnamon. John uses some of the recipes with the Pitta Spice Mix every day, because it is so easy, tastes nice & gives him all 6 tastes which is very satisfying and prevents cravings.
